Description

This is the gripping true story of a young girl’s journey through a childhood nightmare that included being sexually trafficked in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA. Years of sexual abuse, domestic violence, and extreme stress caused a downward spiral into chaos, complex alternate personalities, self-harm, and frequent admissions into psychiatric hospitals. With her life in ruins and any hope for a future demolished, little did this child know that one day she would uncover a life-changing secret about her real identity…she was in fact, royalty.

From Rubble to Royalty is T. Kennedy’s brave and deeply honest account of her transformative journey from one miracle to another even as she endured inconceivable suffering. She reveals effective “swords” of truth she uses to defeat the lies in her life, and how to break the chains of shame, guilt, and self-hatred. Now restored and raised from the rubble, T. Kennedy leads others to discover that they too, can lead a new life filled with joy and purpose as children of the King.

An impressive first-hand account of how dissociation helped a young child endure and survive her physical, emotional and spiritual abuse history. Tammy provides a frank and credible account of how she used her imagination, humor, introspection, faith and determination to not only survive the trauma she experienced but also to ultimately thrive in spite of it. I believe Tammy’s narrative can serve as a tremendous source of hope and comfort for those embarking on their own journey toward healing the wounds (seen and unseen) inflicted during their childhood. I also recommend this book for therapists who want to learn more about how the dynamic unconscious can manifest in adults with prolonged and severe childhood abuse histories.

Unlike similar books, this one stands out because the author has written it from the perspective of having lived about three decades as an adult after her sexual abuse as a child (age 3-16) and how the effects have played out in her life. She shares how she struggled with shame, rejection from her mother, and the difficulty putting the pieces of her childhood together. She is able to look back and identify what has helped her in the healing process, which is ongoing. What I found most helpful was learning to understand how someone severely abused sexually thinks and feels about themselves and others. I appreciate her transparency and focusing on the hope that she has found in her life .
